Our New Plan

We have a new plan for hiking the AZT.  Since we are taking Baron and worry about how hard this will be on him and maybe because we're questioning our own abilities to do a thru-hike, we've decided to take the truck and park at various points along the way and hike out a few days and back.  Then hike out a few days in the other direction and back.  At first I was kind of disappointed about not attempting a traditional thru-hike, but the more we discussed it, the more I like this idea.  We'll have more flexibility for side-trips, we can drive ourselves to re-supply, we can take back-up supplies and lots of water, we'll get some rest while driving to the next point on the trail, and if we get into trouble, we know we only have to get back to the truck. Another advantage of this plan is we'll ending up doing the whole trail twice, so we'll be gone even longer.  Depending on when we finally get on the trail, this could be challenging with weather.  I guess we'll figure it out as we go!

Our fixer-upper campershell - ain't it purty?

So, we found a used campershell on Craig's List for $75.  It's a fixer-upper alright, but well worth it.  Rã has been working hard to paint it.  He's added new shocks on the rear window and a brake light.  He'll also have to replace the interior light.  It's looking alot better and definitely worth some elbow grease and a few bucks for paint and parts.  I'm excited - I think it will be wonderful to have.

We're still wrapping things up, but eventually will get on the trail.  We have a few more projects to take care of around the house.  Also, at least two more trips to New Mexico to deliver my Miata to Rã's sister and put together a storage shed on his sister's property and take our stuff out there.  I think it's a good idea to give them a shed in exchange for storing our stuff, rather than paying alot of money for an expensive storage space.  Slowly but surely, it's all coming together. ~Heather
